At 3pm on Saturday, May 13, 1950, the first race of the Formula 1 World Championship took place at Silverstone. It was known as the Royal Automobile Club Grand Prix d’Europe incorporating the British Grand Prix, which was a pretty convoluted name. Seventy-five years later at the Imola circuit in Italy, F1 hosted its 1,132nd Grand Prix.
