When I was young and rather more English than European, I was introduced to a game that Brits used to play when crossing Belgium. I am sure it would be frowned upon by today’s egalitarian folk. It was called “Famous Belgians” and the game required occupants of a car to think of five famous Belgians before you reached the German border. Belgium, we thought, did not have a lot of famous people. And it is not a big country.
